When most people think of breast surgeries, breast enhancement with implants usually comes to mind. And although breast augmentations are, in fact, the most popular type of breast surgery, they certainly aren’t the only breast surgery. In fact, according to the American Society of PLastic Surgeons, mastopexies or breast lifts, have grown substantially (at 70%) since the year 2000, outpacing breast augmentations 2-1.
By lifting the breasts, removing excess skin, and often using an implant in the process, a breast lift helps women who have started to experience sagging breasts gain back their self-esteem and appearance. Just like with any cosmetic surgery that we at Plastic Surgery Associates offer our patients, the recovery process is one of the most important steps. So, how can you get the most out of your recovery? Let’s delve a little deeper.
Wear Your Support Bra
We will send you home from your surgery either with a support bra or a support bandage that you should wear for the amount of time your doctor recommends. These unique support bras are designed to help minimize swelling, speed up recovery time, and prevent infection.
If you are accustomed to sleeping flat on your back, this may be an adjustment, but it’s an important one to make. Make sure that you sleep with your head and chest elevated for the first few days after surgery— this will help with swelling and draining as well.
Follow Drain Instructions
If we send you home with a surgical drain in your incision site, make sure that you follow every instruction in depth— this will help ensure that you don’t get an infection.
After your surgery, we will send you home with a detailed care packet listing how to recover fully. If at any time during your recovery you have questions, don’t hesitate to give us a call.
