Kybella | Dr. Gulin | Plastic Surgery Associates of Naples | Naples FlWhat is Kybella™?

Kybella™ is the first and only FDA-approved non-surgical treatment that is used to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called, "double chin".

How does Kybella™ work?

Kybella™ is a non-human and non-animal formulation of Deoxycholic acid which is a naturally found molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected in the subcutaneous fat, Kybella™ causes the destruction of fat cells.. Once these fat cells are destroyed, the cells cannot store or accumulate fat. The results are permanent.

How is Kybella™ administered?

The area under the chin is numbed with a local anesthetic. Kybella is then injected into the fat, similar to receiving Botox™ or filler injections. The treatment takes 15 to 20 minutes. You can resume all of your normal activities. To achieve optimal results, most patients will need two to four treatments at a monthly interval. A treatment plan will be customized for each patient.

Is Kybella™ safe?

Kybella™ has been the part of of a golbal clinical development program involving over 20 clinical studies with more than 1600 patients who were treated with Kybella™. 79% of patients were satisfied after receiving this treatment. Kybella™ was approved by the FDA on April 29th, 2015.

What happens after the treatment?

Some Patients may experience with swelling, bruising, numbness or mild discomfort around the treatment area. These symptoms can be treated with mild over the counter pain medication or ice. In exceedingly rare instances it is possible to have temporary nerve injury to the jaw that can cause an uneven smile. This is why it is very important to have this treatment performed by an expert in the field of cosmetic surgery.
