Male Breast Reduction
(Correction of Gynecomastia)
Many men seen by Dr. Stanley P. Gulin at Plastic Surgery Associates of Naples-Ft. Myers complain of enlarged breasts a condition known as gynecomastia,. Although common in men of any age it often appears first shortly after puberty because of hormonal changes. Gynecomastia can also be present in middle age men, particularly with weight gain or as their metabolism slows down. Breast enlargement in men can also be due to alcohol, cigarettes smoking as well as certain medications or drugs. In many cases the condition is often painful. The enlarged breasts may be symmetrical or asymmetrical. Often there is a significant amount of embarrassment or loss of self-confidence because of the appearance of the chest. Some men may avoid certain physical activities simply to hide their breast enlargement.
Surgery involves removal of the breast tissue and occasionally the removal of excessive chest skin if the breast is significantly enlarged. Surgery is performed in the fully accredited on-site plastic surgical facility located in Naples, Florida under twilight sleep sedation or general anesthesia.
Most male breast reductions are done using only ultrasonic tumescent liposuction (Lipo-Selection/Vaser-lipo) through small incisions hidden either in the arm pit or around the areola. Occasionally an additional incision around the areola is needed to remove additional firm breast tissue, below the areola.
Most men return to their usual activity in three to five days. Exercise is resumed in about one to two weeks. Swelling may persist for several weeks following the surgery.

The breasts are more symmetrical and have a more muscular male appearance. The surgical incisions go on to heal extremely well and to fade in time.
